Do These 4 Things When Returning from Vacation

Does it feel like you returned from vacation a month ago, not yesterday?

The reality is that many things await you on your first day back from vacation: a full inbox, a long list of to-dos, and people needing your time. If you dive right in, you'll likely eliminate all the benefits of taking time off.

It is possible to get back in the swing of things while keeping calm and restoring your break. This can be done in four ways:

  • Block off your morning. Make sure you don't have any meetings scheduled or big projects due.

  • Don’t open your inbox immediately. Instead, identify your work priorities for the day.

  • As you review emails and voicemails, focus on returning messages related to what matters most. Defer or delegate tasks that aren't a top priority.

  • Remember that catching up will probably take more than one day, so be easy on yourself.
